Day 1

City: Arrival in Tokyo

Event: Arrive at Narita/Haneda Airport

Welcome to Japan!

Following your arrival to Japan and transfer to the hotel, enjoy the rest of the day free to relax from the long flight.

Day 2

City: Tokyo

Event: Tour of Tokyo

Let’s begin our exploration of Japan with a tour of Tokyo. Firstly, the tour begins with a visit the Shunkaen Bonsai Museum set up by the bonsai master Kunio Kobayashi. Then, we will visit Tokyo SKYTREE, the world’s tallest tower. Afterward, we will take a visit to Asakusa Kannon Temple and the Nakamise Shopping Arcade. Finally, we end the day’s tour with a visit to the Imperial Palace, home to Japan’s Imperial Family.

Day 3

City: Tokyo

Event: Tour of Tokyo

Today we will visit the Meiji-jingu Shrine which was dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken in 1920. Then, is a trip to Harajuku, Omotesando, and Shibuya, famous shopping destinations. Although these are famous shopping districts, you will want to save some energy (and yen) for a visit to Akihabara Electric Town. Famous for its densely packed buildings full of anime and manga paraphernalia, this area is undoubtedly Japan’s pop-culture capital. Finally, we end the day’s shopping trip with a visit to Ginza. Here, you’ll find upmarket shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Day 4

City: Tokyo – Nikko – Tokyo

Event: Tour of Nikko

Leaving Tokyo for the day, we will take a trip to Nikko. Firstly, the tour begins with a visit to Toshogu Shrine. Built in 1617, the shrine is a mausoleum of the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. Then on the itinerary is a visit to Kegon Waterfall. Ranked among Japan’s top three waterfalls, Kegon Waterfall is almost 100 meters tall. Before returning to Tokyo, we will take a trip to Mt. Nantai, one of Japan’s 100 famous mountains.

Day 5

City: Tokyo – Mt. Fuji – Hakone

Event: Transfer to Hakone with view of Mt. Fuji

After checking out of the hotel, we then continue our exploration of Japan by heading to Mt. Fuji’s 5th Station and the Fuji Visitor Center. Then, we will enjoy a scenic boat cruise on Lake Ashi with spectacular views of Mt. Fuji. Upon arrival at the hotel in Hakone, relax in the calming hot springs that will undoubtedly take away all your worries. Following a trip to the hot springs, enjoy a kaiseki dinner at the guesthouse and spend the night asleep on a futon.

Day 6

City: Hakone – Shima Peninsula (Ise)

Event: Transfer to Shima Peninsula by Shinkansen and express train

Today you will board the Shinkansen (bullet train) and express train to travel to Shima Peninsula. Once there, enjoy a visit to Ise Grand Shrine made up of the outer shrine (Geku) and inner shrine (Naiku). We will continue in the area to Okageyokocho Street and the Sengukan Museum.

Day 7

City: Shima Peninsula (Ise) – Kyoto

Event: Tour of Toba

The day’s tour takes us to Mikimoto Pearl Island. Mikimoto Pearl Island features a museum about pearls, pearl cultivation, and Mikimoto Kokichi. Born in Toba, Mikimoto Kokichi was the first person to cultivate pearls in the year 1983. While on the island, you will be able to observe a live demonstration of female divers (ama).

Following the explorations of Mikimoto Pearl Island, you will board an express train to Kyoto.

Day 8

City: Kyoto

Event: Tour of Kyoto

Known as the cultural capital of Japan, an exploration of Japan is certainly not complete without a trip to Kyoto. Today’s tour will take us to several of Kyoto’s most famous temples. Firstly is a visit to Kinkaku-ji Temple, also known as the Golden Pavilion. Secondly, we take a visit to Nijo-jo Castle, home to the first shogun , Tokugawa Ieyasu. Following that we will venture to Sanjusangendo Hall that houses a large wooden 1000-armed Kannon statue surrounded by 500 smaller statues. The itinerary then brings us to Kiyomizudera Temple. The temple is one of the most celebrated temples in Japan and today is a World Heritage Site. Finally, we end our exploration of Kyoto’s temples with a visit to Sannenzaka. A pedestrian-only lane, Sannenzaka takes you back in time to old Kyoto.

Day 9

City: Kyoto – Nara – Osaka

Event: Tour of Nara

Following our departure from Kyoto, we first take a visit to Todai-ji Temple in Nara. Located inside the temple’s main hall is a 15 meter tall Great Buddha statue. Then, we visit Nara Park, home to hundreds of freely roaming deer. Considered the messenger of the gods, the deer at Nara Park have since become a symbol of the city. Finally, we end the tour of Nara with a visit to the Kasuga Grand Shrine. Famous for its lanterns, there are hundreds of bronze lanterns hanging from the buildings and stone lanterns lining the walkways.

Day 10

City: Osaka – Mt. Koya

Event: Transfer to Mt. Koya by express train and cable car

An express train and cable car will take you from Osaka to Mt. Koya. Following your arrival, you will visit the Reihokan Museum housing the religious treasures of Koyasan. We then venture to Kongobu-ji Temple, constructed in 1593 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in commemoration of his mother. Finally, we finish with a visit to Okunoin Temple, the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi. Afterwards, enjoy the vegetarian temple cuisine (shojin ryori) for dinner.

Day 11

City: Mt. Koya – Miyajima Island – Hiroshima

Event: Transfer to Hiroshima

Start the day early with zen meditation in the early morning followed by vegetarian temple cuisine for breakfast. Then, transfer to Miyajima Island from Hiroshima. Take in the sights at Miyajima Island and visit Omotesando Street and Itsukushima Shrine. The famous “floating” torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine is the cause for Miyajima Island’s name. Formally known as Itsukushima Island, it has since been nicknamed “Miyajima” meaning “shrine island” in Japanese.

Following our exploration of Miyajima Island, we will return to Hiroshima by ferry. The ride will take approximately 10 minutes.

Day 12

City: Hiroshima – Osaka

Event: Tour of Hiroshima

A visit to Hiroshima is obviously not complete without a trip to the Peace Memorial Park and the A-Bomb Dome. The A-Bomb Dome is what remains of the Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, one of the few buildings to remain standing since the atomic bomb was dropped during World War II. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial is equally a reminder of the destructive power of mankind and expresses the hope for world peace.

Day 13

City: Osaka – Kobe – Osaka

Event: Tour of Kobe

Our last full day on the tour will take you on a tour of Kobe as the final stop in our exploration of Japan. On the tour, you will visit a sake brewery, Meriken Park, Nankinmachi Chinatown, and the Sannomiya area. Nankinmachi, Kobe’s Chinatown, was named after Nanking, the Chinese capital during that time. Made up of only two streets, they are consequently jam packed with shops, restaurants, and stalls.

Day 14

City: Departure from Osaka

Event: Transfer to Kansai International Airport
