Day 1

City: Arrival in Tokyo

Event: Arrive at Narita/Haneda Airport

After your arrival to Japan and transfer to the hotel, enjoy the rest of the day free to relax from the long flight.

Day 2

City: Tokyo

Event: Tour of Tokyo

We begin the Golden Route Tour with a tour of Tokyo. First, we will visit the Imperial Palace (Nijubashi Bridge), Tokyo SKYTREE, and the Asakusa Kannon Temple. While on temple grounds, be sure to check out the many stores lining the main approach to the temple for shopping at the Nakamise Shopping Arcade. Finally, we will embark on a cruise along the Sumida River and visit the Hamarikyu Garden.

Day 3

City: Tokyo – Nikko – Tokyo

Event: Tour of Nikko (a World Heritage Site) by bus

Leaving Tokyo for the day, we embark on a tour of Nikko (a World Heritage Site) by bus. To begin, we first take a visit to Toshogu Shrine. Built in 1617, the shrine is a mausoleum of the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. We then visit Tokugawa’s Tombs which was built in 1643 by Iemitsu, Ieyasu’s grandson. Finally, the tour of Nikko is ended with a visit to Kegon Waterfall. Ranked among Japan’s top three waterfalls, Kegon Waterfall is almost 100 meter tall.

Day 4

City: Tokyo – Kamakura – Yokohama – Hakone

Event: Transfer to Hakone via Kamakura

Leaving Tokyo for good, we visit the outdoor Great Buddha state in Kamakura. As the second tallest bronze statue in Japan, the Great Buddha statue is an amazing example of Buddhist culture. Next, we will visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, the most important shrine in Kamakura. Finally, we end the day with a visit to Yokohama Chinatown, the largest Chinatown in Japan.

Day 5

City: Hakone – Mt. Fuji – Kyoto

Event: Tour of Mt. Fuji (a World Heritage Site) and Hakone by bus

Continuing on the Golden Route, we will take a trip to Mt. Fuji’s 5th Station. Cruising on Lake Ashi, you will be able to see spectacular views of Mt. Fuji. Ending our Hakone bus tour, we visit Owakudani, also known as the “boiling valley.” Resulting from a volcanic eruption of Mt. Hakone, Owakudani is active with sulfur vents and hot springs. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try blackened hard-boiled eggs. Cooked in the hot springs of Owakudani, these eggs are said to extend your life by seven years.

Finally, we depart from Hakone and transfer to Kyoto via Shinkansen (bullet train).

Day 6

City: Kyoto

Event: Tour of Kyoto (a World Heritage Site)

To begin our exploration of Kyoto, we will visit Kinkaku-ji Temple, also known as the Golden Pavilion. We then take a trip to Ryoan-ji Temple, famous for its rock garden. Next, we take a visit to Nijo-jo Castle, home to the first shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu. Finally, we end our exploration of Kyoto’s temples with a visit to Kiyomizudera Temple. The temple is one of the most celebrated temples in Japan and today is a World Heritage Site.

Day 7

City: Kyoto – Nara – Kyoto

Event: Tour of Nara

Venturing to Nara for the day, we begin with a visit to Todai-ji Temple. Located inside the temple’s main hall is a 15 meter tall Great Buddha statue. Next, we visit Nara Park, home to hundreds of deer. Considered the messengers of the gods, the deer at Nara Park have become a symbol of the city. Finally, we end the tour of Nara with a visit to the Kasuga Grand Shrine. Famous for its lanterns, there are hundreds of bronze lanterns hanging from the buildings and stone lanterns lining the walkways.

Day 8

City: Kyoto – Osaka

Event: Transfer to Osaka by bus

Saying goodbye to Kyoto, we head to Osaka by bus. Enjoy 360 degree views of Osaka from the Harukas 300 Observatory at Abeno Harukas. Finally, we will go to the Shinsaibashi downtown shopping area. Here, you’ll be able to find just about everything you could be looking for.

Day 9

City: Departure from Osaka

Event: Transfer to Kansai International Airport
