Japan’s Omotenashi 11 Nights

Experience the real Japanese Omotenashi (hospitality) while on this eventful 12 day tour! Explore both major and hidden sites in Japan like the famous Mt. Day 1

City: Tokyo

Event: Arrival at Narita / Haneda International Airport

Welcome to Japan!

Transfer to hotel in Tokyo. Then, enjoy the rest of the day to explore the nearby area or rest and prepare to experience the Japanese Omotenashi beginning on Day 2 of the tour.

Day 2

City: Tokyo

Event: Sightseeing in Tokyo

Following breakfast at the hotel, it is time to explore the most famous sights around the Tokyo area. The tour guide will explain the significance and history of these famous destinations while aboard the private coach. Throughout the day, you will visit the Imperial Palace, Meiji Jingu Shrine, Omotesando Avenue, Akakusa Kannon Temple, Nakamise Street, and Tokyo Tower. Therefore, come prepared with comfortable walking shoes for a full day of sightseeing and shopping.

Day 3

City: Tokyo

Event: Free for your own activity

Enjoy this free day for your own activity. You may use this day for more sightseeing to nearby attractions such as the Tokyo SKYTREE or Odaiba. For entertainment, consider visiting the Kabuki-za, a theater for kabuki viewing. There, you will be able to enjoy the traditional Japanese performing art of kabuki, kabuki-related exhibitions, as well as souvenirs for purchase. There are many dining options to be found while exploring the city. We recommend Ginza Ukai-Tei for Japanese teppanyaki or Kushiyaki Bistro Fukumimi Ginza.

Day 4

City: Tokyo – Kawaguchiko

Event: Transfer to Fuji Five Lake area

Today, we leave Tokyo and before traveling to Kawaguchiko. We will be visiting the famous Kawaguchiko Lake, said to be the most accessible and interesting of the Fuji Five Lakes. For a bird’s eye view of the lake, we will then ride the Kachikachiyama Ropeway, a cable-car leading to Mt. Tenjo. To end the day’s activities, we will also visit the Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato historical Village and Oshino Hakkai.

Day 5

City: Kawaguchiko – Mt. Fuji – Takayama

Event: Sightseeing in Mt. Fuji area and transfer to Takayama

  • Visiting Mt. Fuji 5th Station
  • Transfer to Takayama by Shinkansen and express train

Experience Mt. Fuji up close and personal by visiting the 5th Station. There are various trails leading up the mountain and each has a 5th station, at which cars may no longer advance. Enjoy a view of the mountain top and panoramic views of the surrounding areas before visiting the souvenir shops for Mt. Fuji specialty items. Following our departure from Mt. Fuji, we will take the Shinkansen (bullet train) and express train to Takayama. Once there, take a moment to relax at the hotel in a traditional Japanese-style room and unwind in the relaxing onsen.

Day 6

City: Takayama – Shirakawago – Kanazawa

Event: Sightseeing in Takayama

Continuing our experience of the rich Japanese culture, we will be visiting Takayama Jinya, where you can learn more about the life during the Shogun Era. You will feel as if you have been transported back in time when visiting the Sanmachi-suji Street, Kusakabe Folk Museum, Kanda House, and Toyama House.

Day 7

City: Kanazawa

Event: Sightseeing in Kanazawa

For our second day in Kanazawa, we begin by strolling through the Kenrokuen Garden. This garden was once the outer garden of the Kanazawa Castle constructed by the Maeda family. We then continue with a visit to the Nagamachi Samurai House, Ohi Pottery Museum, Higashi Chayagai, and Ochaya Shima. Ohi pottery is primarily made for use in the tea ceremony. For more than 300 years, members of the Ohi family have been handcrafting these pieces without the use of a pottery wheel.

Day 8

City: Kanazawa – Kyoto

Event: Transfer to Kyoto by express train

Another free day, today we will be traveling from Kanazawa to Kyoto via express train. Known as the cultural capital of Japan, look forward to seeing various Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines while in the city. You can either spend the day relaxing at the hotel or explore the area. Consider taking a trip to the Kyoto Tower or to the Kyoto Aquarium.

Day 9

City: Kyoto

Event: Sightseeing in Kyoto

Day 9 of this tour is filled to the brim with visits to cultural sites. Beginning with the famous Kinkakuji Temple, otherwise known as the Golden Pavilion. We also venture to Kiyomizu Temple, Ninenzaka, Sannensaka, and Fushimi Inari. Famous for its thousands of torii gates, Fushimi Inari is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice. Be on the lookout for fox statues on shrine grounds as these cunning creatures are thought to be Inari’s messengers. Lastly, we will also get to experience a traditional tea ceremony at Daitokuji Zuiho-in.

Day 10

City: Kyoto

Event: Sightseeing in Kyoto

We begin the day’s activities with a Zazen experience at Tenryuji. Established in 1339, the temple was designated as the first of Kyoto’s Five Mountains (state-sponsored Zen Buddhist temples), a ranking it still maintains to this day. Then on the day’s itinerary is a visit to Arashiyama. Walking through the soaring bamboo stalks will feel like you’re in another world. Finally, we end the day with a visit to Nijo Castle, home to the first shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Day 11

City: Kyoto

Event: Free for your own activity

Enjoy the last full day on the tour your way! After breakfast at the hotel, take this last chance to visit the attractions you have yet to see. Consider going to the Kyoto Railway Museum, Ginkakuji Temple (Silver Pavilion), or strolling through Nishiki Market.

Day 12

City: Kyoto – Kansai Airport

Event: Transfer to Kansai International Airport
